Welcome

Kingsville School of Music (formerly known as Rebel Cowboy Music School) was established in 2011. Located in the heart of Kingsville, Ontario this music school is a home for musicians, from beginners to advanced, to develop their knowledge and skills in the art of music.

As an owner and music teacher, James’ mission is to spread his passion for music and provide quality music education for students of all ages and skill levels.

After deciding on their instruments students are guided through music theory, ear training, music performance and recording. Students learn in different ways, therefore, no two lessons are the same.

During our music lessons, students are asked about their reasons for choosing their instruments. If you are excited about music or a specific instrument, holding onto that excitement will motivate your practice for years to come. Kingsville School of Music is a fun place for musicians to work on the music they love.

The music school features spacious lesson rooms, a rest room, and welcoming waiting room. There is plenty of free parking space around us, too!

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the appropriate age to start music lessons?

There is no time like the present! The exact age to start music lessons truly depends on the student as everyone progresses differently. We have had students that were ready as young as 3 years old. We also have had students just beginning at 80 years young! So, we don’t restrict base on age. However, it is helpful if the student knows their alphabet (or at least up to the letter G…which is how far the musical alphabet goes!).

Can I take lessons during school hours?

Yes, you can! The Education Act of the Government of Ontario states school attendance may be excused when the student is absent from school for the purpose of receiving private instruction in music and the period of absence does not exceed one-half day in any week. (in Chapter E2, Part 2, Statute 21.2e)

The music school is open for lessons during school hours in the early afternoon, so if this is an option for you, please let us know and we will help you get started with this process.

How long should students practice each day?

Practicing music outside of the lesson is so important! It might seem daunting, but we really encourage practicing a little EVERY day. This is far more beneficial than just one long practice session a week. Sit down with your instrument today, tomorrow and the rest of the weekend for just 20 mins each day. See the big difference it will make when you head to your next lesson!

What is the frequency of music lessons at Kingsville School of Music?

Music lessons are once a week. However, we do have some students who wished to take lessons more frequently so it is also an option to do lessons twice per week.

Is it okay if a students decides to start on one instrument and then wants to switch to another instrument?

Yes! We teach a wide variety of musical instruments at Kingsville School of Music and most teachers are multi-instrumentalist. This means students can easily switch instruments until they find the right one for them.

I have more than 1 child that would like to register. Can they take music lessons together?

Absolutely! In fact, in most cases, we encourage it. We offer sibling group lessons where siblings can learn the same or different instruments together. We often find that when siblings take lessons together they progress a bit faster as they work on the same material and can help one another learn something new outside of the lesson room, too. Sibling Group Lessons are also discounted.

Can I take music lessons online?

Yes, our music teachers are available for online lessons. These lessons are still one-on-one and held through Skype video call, but if there is another platform you would prefer to use (i.e. Zoom) just let us know. Many students prefer online music lessons because they offer greater flexibility and convenience. In fact, we have quite a few students that have moved away from the Kingsville area but continue to take lessons with us online!

Do you teach lessons throughout the summer, too?

Yes, we do! Our music school is open year-round for music lessons. School isn’t actually out for the summer here. In fact, summer is one of the best time to take music lessons because more progress can be made plus you don’t lose what you have already learned. We understand that schedules can differ during the summer months so if you need to change your weekly lesson time or pause lessons for the summer, please just let us know as soon as possible.
